Manufacturing in America
President Obama and a significant number of politicians representing both political parties are clueless as to what it will take to restore jobs in America. It seems that the only thing both parties truly understand is how to keep their jobs and how to secure additional income by increasing taxes. America’s largest employer paying the highest salaries is the government. Government employees are paid the best and receive the best benefits … all subsidized by non Government organizations.
When will our political leaders figure out that the biggest obstacle facing growth in America is our politicians. And when will, we, the American voter, figure out that we can’t depend on politicians to resolve our problems. Not even sure politicians can be educated with the truth, especially since it seems their number one objective is themselves, not our nations ability to persevere.
Manufacturing is key. Countries that place a priority on education, discovery, invention, engineering, manufacturing and the infrastructure supporting these priorities are Countries that will prevail. This means that the countries to watch for heavy growth and high employment include China and other Asian countries where their governments support the engineering and manufacturing infrastructure.
In the USA, we got it upside-down. Only in America … industry supports Government, and, in turn, Government does as little as possible for industry except for regulating, i.e. making it more difficult for industry to survive. You’d think our Government would realize that without industry, Government won’t survive.
Thankfully, there are some groups in the USA that care about our future. A handful of reporters and journalists who seem to “get it,” and are now heightening “Made in the USA” focus to their print and television audiences. Additionally there is the Center for America. Last year, on December 1, 2010, the Center for America invited a panel of manufacturers to present obstacles facing Small Engineering and High Tech Manufacturing Companies.
As a die-hard believer in engineering, invention and Made in the USA, I hope and pray that our Country’s politicians wake up and re-invigorate Made in the USA. Our objective for NovaEconomics is to present the original paper defining the problem along with several very doable solutions in hopes that it fosters discussion and awareness that America can still be a leader, but we need to first step to the plate and do so very soon. The longer our politicians wait, the harder it will be to regain positioning and restore leadership.
